Simple pizza
Simple pizza

This is probably the best recipe I have ever found. Probably not the best for someone on a diet though as it's high in everything! But as the occasional treat or as a standby if you're short of time or ingredients it can't be bettered.

Cut the crusts off whatever slices of bread you have. For two slices of bread, melt 50g / 2 oz of butter in a saucepan. When the butter is melted take it off the heat and dip the slices of bread into the melted butter, coating both sides. Put a sheet of foil onto a baking sheet (to avoid having to clean the sheet afterwards) and put the butter soaked bread onto the foil.

Cut thin slices of mature cheddar or whatever cheese you have available, then add anything else you have in the fridge as left-overs, e.g. bacon, tomatoes, spring onions, peppers, ham, making sure that they're all cut into small pieces (about 1-2cm square). Layer the left-overs onto the bread and cheese.

Finally, grate a little more cheese over the top and bake in the oven at about 170°c for about 15 mins or until the edges of the bread base is crispy.

Vases
Hints...

Always put candles out with the wick upright and trim to about 1cm to prevent the candle from burning unevenly.

You can use the jars our bath salts come in as vases. Wash them out thoroughly and mix them in with old bottles, clouded drinking glasses or other odd containers.

Aromas

A few drops of a favourite essential oil on a cotton wool make-up pad when put between the filter of your vacuum cleaner will fill the house with the aroma of the essential oil.

A few drops of essential oil smeared over a cold light-bulb (e.g. a table lamp) before you turn it on is a brilliant way to suffuse a room with a favourite aroma. Using citronella or lavender may help to discourage insects. A few drops of lavender essential oil on a make-up pad and placed by/under/in your pillow case may help to relax you as you try to sleep.
